Trading Apps in comparison! Trade Republic, eToro, flatex + Scalable Capital useful? Test

Trading Apps Comparison – There are many apps and few in which you can 1) sign up quickly [in a few minutes], find a 2) wide range of financial products [stock, ETF, crypto, etc.] and 3) have no costs, as in traditional banks (deposit and order). Trading cheaply has never been easier, thanks to tranding apps you can find for free in Google’s PlayStore and Apple’s iStore. My top 4, with 1st & 2nd place being the best (free deposit and free order): Trade Republic, eToro, Scalable Capital and flatex. Why and why, you can find out here!

Trading: Which app is useful?

All of them have been test winners in renowned compare, depending on which aspects were more or less in the focus of the test.

The A&O for trading is the quick and easy (also free of charge) deposit opening. Usually 3-5 minutes with the ID card for identification and you’re ready to go. There should be no costs for the depot, but also for trading. Tip: Place 1 + 2 are 100% free, as far as depot and trades are concerned.

In addition, of course, there is the large product selection. Starting with shares from different countries, ETFs (i.e. “bundled shares”), cryptocurrencies, commodities such as gold, oil, etc. At eToro (2nd place), you can “follow” other traders as an extra feature. This automatically copies their trades, all purchases and sales. With a look back at their investment history, an interesting tool for investors.

Caution. 3 simple golden trading tips

Before we get to my app recommendations and experiences, here are 3 important ground rules for beginners:

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket – diversifyyour investments
Trading only with “play money” – money that is not needed
“All time high” – values always rise in the long run (safe ETF and funds [like DAX or DOW), think long term

Short / medium and long term: trading differences

Here again, very, very generally set up, which types of investments take place in which time periods:

Long-term / quiet “trading” – Tip: Buy first property
Long / medium term trading – ETF (“bundle of shares” of one industry)
Medium-term trading – shares
Medium / Short Term Trading – Cryptocurrency
Short term trading – currencies

Long term: > 1 year
Medium term: ~ 1 – 12 months
Short term: ~ 1 week – 1 month

Tip. If cryptocurrency (like BitCoin, Ethereum, etc.) is held for more than 1 year, the gains are tax-free. Otherwise, capital gains tax (25% on gains) will apply.

Trade Republic is Made in Germany and one of the success models and “Unicorns” (startup worth over 1 billion) in Germany. “Despite” being located in Germany, the app for iOS and Android offers the finest trading experience, from home and on the go.

All major stock market securities can be traded in the app: Stock, ETF, Crypto, Commodities, etc. Registration and login is done in less than 5 minutes.

Trade Republic does not cost money, the app is free, account management and custody, there are also no order fees. Therefore, deservedly, according to all experience in the first place.

eToro is, next to Trade Republic, my favorite app for trading on the go, in the office and at home. eToro is probably already known to many from TV commercials. As a US company, the startup naturally has much more capital than Trade Republic, for example.

After all my eToro experience, I can guarantee that the app is stable. Simple and fast registration via the app, deposit money, and you’re ready to go.

eToro has no custody fees, no account fees, no order fees. By the way, this is only the case with #1 and #2, the other apps always charge at some point. More about that in a moment!

Scalable Capital ‘s app runs flawlessly, almost everything can be traded, but the securities account costs 2.99 euros per month. Okay, it’s only 3 euros, but custody account fees are no longer state of the art. Therefore, in line with the 3 euros per month, only in 3rd place in the ranking and test, the app from Scalable Capital.

That’s why it’s only 4th in the ranking of the best trading apps.

Tesla is flying its e-car into space for PR, building giga-factories around the world, and its stock price is putting the fear of God into established brands. Now comes NIO with new announcements: Battery ranges of 1,000 km in 2022 (NIO ET7 model) and quick battery swaps, rather than long charging times. For comparison, Tesla Model S currently manages a range of about 650 km. Bloomberg already calls NIO the “Tesla Killer”. But Tesla itself is the “killer” for established car brands. An industry is in upheaval and 600+ companies from China are now emerging. Electromobility is the future. Fossil fuels have had their day. Whether it’s the next 10 years or the next 50 years, the goal is clear: electrification. With the increasing efficiency of renewable energies, the combination of renewable energies and electric automobility is the winner.

Tesla is the absolute pioneer when it comes to electric cars. With its models, from the small wagon to the large SUV, Tesla has experienced a great wave of success worldwide. The models, S, 3, X and Y add up to, you get the picture, the word: Sexy.

Apple founder Steve Jobs’ motto fits this:

Stay hungry, stay foolish

Meanwhile, Tesla is building its plants, or giga-factories, around the world. Tesla teaches the fossil giants what the future can look like. The mix of spirit and know-how makes the brand so strong. Tesla was also the first car to go into space, with Musk’s rocket company SpaceX.

Just last week, Tesla got into bitcoin, with over 1.5 billion in volume. The Bitcoin so also soon be accepted as a means of payment.

600+ companies from China are coming

There are now over 600 companies in China involved in electric car mobility. “China Cars”, summarized as a claim.

While the Middle Kingdom initially relied on foreign partners such as VW, production now functions independently. The manufacturer NIO in particular is attracting a lot of attention. CEO and Chairman William Li, who can also be seen later in an interview, is currently driving the brand forward worldwide.

What is the difference between NIO and Tesla?

How do NIO and Tesla differ?

Problem 1: Battery charging time

Especially charging the battery is a big problem at the moment. Currently, you have to drive to charging stations and then wait for an hour. For many, such long waiting times are not an option. NIO therefore offers direct battery replacement, in a fast process. This way, owners of electric cars only have to wait a few minutes and a fresh battery is already inserted into the car.

Tesla: Charge battery by cable (30-90 minutes)
NIO: Battery exchange at the vehicle (5 minutes)

The concept: battery subscription, instead of purchase. If you extrapolate the daily charging time, quickly a good investment.

Tesla: 450 – 1350 minutes
NIO: 75 minutes

In fact, direct battery swap is not a new idea from NIO! Tesla already had your direct exchange of batteries in concept in 2015. However, Tesla was way ahead of the curve with that at the time. NIO can now get great PR out of it.

Current solution, charging stations and cables:

Problem 2: Range (power)

The second important aspect is the power of the battery. The more powerful the battery, the further the car or electric scooter or motorcycle can go.

NIO promises a battery range of 1,000 kilometers (for 2022) and attacks Tesla’s Model 3 and Model S directly. NIO seems to have the best technologies at the moment and reports of new top performances are constantly coming in. Currently, there are also plans for an SUV that can cover over 1,000 km on a single charge.

NIO ET7: 1,000 km (Important: Announcement for 2022!)

Future: electric mobility (VW, BMW, Toyota & Co.)

The “giants” also see the trend towards electromobility. In the meantime, of course, the big car companies are following suit, whether VW or Toyota. Electric automobility is on the rise and here you can find charts and price trends summarized once again.

Papers like those of Lufthansa fell to ~ 1/5 of their pre-value. Minus 80% losses in a few weeks. This happened to almost all sectors, except e-commerce and online trading. In contrast, the price of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is holding up. More and more investors are getting in, in crypto trading. What makes cryptocurrency? Why do im more wanting to buy cryptocurrency? Since March, BitCoin (BTC) has reached 453.9%. Ethereum (ETH) 376.2% and Binary Coin (BNB) at 428.5%. Currency trading is attracting more and more investors, including individuals. The phenomenon is strong in forex, but more investors are also getting involved in the stock market, as seen recently at GameStop. A look at the development, 12 months after the start of the pandemic, in mid-February; with the consequences of the lock down in March.

The view becomes even more blatant if you double the period round about again, to 24 months. If you had invested 2 years ago, you would make + 1,000% profit today. 24 months ago, the price stood at exactly $5,000, with which you could have bought 1 Bitcoin. Today, you would immediately get $54,000 for it, + $49,000 profit.

Many still think very critically about cryptocurrency, especially those who have not yet had their own, long-term experience. Many customers I have conversations with also view cryptocurrency critically. They prefer to invest in stocks, index funds, art.

Don’t invest in cryptocurrency! Risky, dangerous… really?

But anyone who has been interested in the subject from an early age has experienced the unstoppable triumph of digital currencies, or cryptocurrencies, for themselves. From the first “have you ever heard of bitcoin?”, to “wow, bitcoin is at $100”, to today’s “unbelievable, $45,000”. What’s next? Many are already speculating on the next target, the:

For more than 10 years, we have been hearing “risk, dangerous…”, but history shows that digital currency is becoming increasingly established. Not only in the minds of people, but also in business (see payment method Paypal, Tesla) and also in governments, which are testing the first digital currency models.

Honestly – While in the beginning you thought every week it will be over soon, it turned into months and years. Now cryptocurrency, especially for the new generation, is often more present than classic financial investments. Today, there is no longer just bitcoin and few other alternatives but a whole pool of cryptocurrencies. Software companies, banks, governments, everyone is now talking about digital currency. Business giants like Paypal and Tesla accept them as a means of payment.

Are we only at the beginning of the digital age?

Those who were there have now experienced an entire decade, i.e. 10 years. Bitcoin went “online” in 2009.

So if you’re 30 years old or younger, you’ve known digital currencies for half your life. Anyone born after 2000 has never known the world differently.

Critics and first movers: Isn’t the stock market always risky?

Cinema used to be demonized, as were television and the Internet. New things cause fear – and opportunities for those who are brave (Frist Mover).

Critics say: Too much risk, too much fluctuation. But isn’t it always like that when you think of shares? Of course, shares are something else, there is a concrete countervalue behind you (brand, products, inventory, etc.). But fluctuations are quite normal on the stock exchange, at the latest with leverage products. If you only have a short-term view, you will naturally only see something up and down. Those who think in the long term can build up their assets.

Therefore, I want with this small special, not only a look at the development of the large, well-known cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum & Co. overturn, but also on new alternatives.

Cryptocurrency quickly explained

Never heard of the structure behind cryptocurrency?

Here once briefly, very simply explained, how the concept cryptocurrency works. Normal currencies, so-called FIAT currencies, such as the euro or on the US dollar are determined by the individual central banks. That is, individual bodies, people decide what happens.

Cryptocurrencies and coins, on the other hand, are determined only by supply and demand. Bitcoin, like other cryptocurrencies, is therefore free from government supervision and is determined only by the market (supply/demand).

Anyone who was involved with cryptocurrency just five years ago would have noticed next to nothing about it in the media. In the meantime, it is standard that banks, auditors, but also governments present more and more papers and strategies, some countries even explore the active use of cryptocurrency in their own financial system.

Blockchain: “Linked data packets”

Cryptocurrency itself is, simply put, a coded chain of data. The so-called blockchain.

How does cryptocurrency work?

Everything is set up as a P2P network (peer-to-peer). Data is therefore stored in a decentralized manner. All data blocks are linked to that of the predecessor. Within this distributed database, all transactions are actually known!

Trading volumes rise and rise: Digital currencies

Just this week, the news has rolled over, after PayPal has already announced that it wants to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment, Tesla has also produced big news this week. On the one hand, Bitcoin is to be accepted as a means of payment, and on the other hand, Tesla itself has invested 1.5 billion dollars in Bitcoin. Tesla probably made more money from the subsequent jump in the share price than from all electric cars (link for to article “Tesla killer” Nio) combined. The price spoke after the announcement by about $20,000 upwards, almost 100% of the market value.

Bitcoin is the most recognized digital currency after its first decade. Besides Bitcoin, there are a few other representatives that have been around longer. These include Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.

Today new coins are coming after, interesting as an investment?

Now before we get to evaluating the rates, here’s a look at an investment strategy that is emerging as digital currencies become more diversified. Why do I find coins under $5 so interesting? Question 1: Short-term development +/- 6 months:

A) What is the probability that bitcoin will double in the next few months? So from currently ~ $45,000 to $90,000
B) What is the probability that new coins, for under $5 will double in the same time period?

What if you had invested in bitcoin 2 years ago?

Imagine you bought bitcoins a few years ago for €5,000. Today, the price is $53,000. If you sold it today, you would have $265,000 in your pocket. That’s a whole $260,000 profit. Even after deducting the capital gains tax (profits from capital transactions must always be taxed in Germany) of 25%, you are left with $165,000 net profit, even after taxation. If you haven’t paid any capital gains tax yet, it will only be due when you close your year, so not directly when you sell the cryptos.

Example calculation: 24 months Bitcoin – 5,300 % profit

If you had invested today, exactly 2 years ago, you would have made 5,300% profit now

Profit in a few years:

Buy for $5,000 at $1,000/ 5 bitcoins
Current price $53,000 * 5 coins = $265,000 value
Profit: $260,000
Profit (after tax): $195,000

PS: As I write this article, the price has already risen above $54,000. Directly an update:

Profit in a few years:

Buy for $5,000 at $1,000/ 5 bitcoins
Current price $54,000 * 5 coins = $270,000 value
Profit: $265,000
Profit (after tax): $198,750

So during the article, my profit would have increased again by +$5,000.

Even 24 months ago, you would have made + 1,000%. Here, the price stood at exactly $5,000, with which you could have bought 1 Bitcoin. Today, you would immediately get $54,000 for it, + $49,000 profit.
